Assignment 3

I read this article called China Offers Plan to Clean up its Polluted Lakes and in it discussed Beijing’s proposition to limit pollution in China’s lakes by 2010. In order to make this possible, strict regulation of the release of waste water, the banning of pesticides and detergents with phosphorus would be necessary. Factories near lakes that produced too much pollution would be removed and sewage treatment facilities would be improved in order to restore the lakes back to normality by 2030. As a result of the severe amount of pollution present within China’s lakes, algae have formed, preventing massive amounts of people from being able to drink or even cook with the water. Although Beijing’s government would like to solve this pending issue, resistance from province and local leaders have set their plans behind.

张晓彤-- Thanks for the article. Pollution is a big issue in Beijing. Farmers actually use polluted water on vegetation and the public is worried about the long term effects to human while consuming contaminated foods.
